Description

Each piece is hand-thrown in my London studio using a coarse black stoneware. A layer of Terracotta slip is applied with a wide, coarse brush, leaving behind visible, unedited traces of the maker’s hand. Before firing, I spend time carefully burnishing the surface while the clay is leather-hard. This process compacts the clay particles, creating a subtle sheen that emerges after the firing. The piece remains unglazed to honor the tactile grain of the raw earth.

Story

This collection explores the primal beauty of Terracotta—a clay I find deeply compelling for its honest, elemental nature. Found in various forms across the globe, it has been a fundamental material in pottery for millennia. Its true character is revealed through the firing process—depending on the temperature, it can shift from a bright orange to the deep, settled brick-red seen in this collection.

The inspiration for this palette draws from the solemn aesthetics rooted in the Qin Dynasty. In this tradition, red is not merely a color; it carries a sense of profound gravity and a quiet, underlying strength.

/

Care

Finish: Unglazed and hand-burnished.

Usage: While the vessel is non-leaking, the unglazed clay body remains naturally porous. These pieces are ideal for dry foods(nuts, pastries, fruit) or saucy dishes (rice, pasta). We recommend avoiding prolonged contact with liquids or soupy dishes, as the clay may slowly absorb moisture over time.

Care : All works are food-safe. While they are technically dishwasher-safe, hand-washing is highly recommended . As handmade ceramics are inherently more unique and less uniform than mass-produced items, please handle them with gentle care to avoid chipping the edges.
